Academic interests
My research field is within health education and clinical communication.
My research project focuses on how patients and healthcare professionals share and co-construct knowledge to develop health literacy. This involves patients acquiring coping strategies and experiential learning, while healthcare professionals develop person-centered approaches to treatment and diagnosis that are tailored to the patient’s unique needs and preferences.
My data material consists of video recordings from the preparatory procedure prior to PET-CT scanning, telephone recordings between patients and rheumatologists in which diagnostic imaging results are communicated, and audio recordings of interviews with patients about their narratives and experiences of living with a chronic fibrotic connective tissue disease.
The approach is ethnographic, using interactional, discursive, and narrative analyses of the data. The focus is on gaining a better understanding of how person-centered learning processes that facilitate patient agency can contribute to improving prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up for patients with chronic fibrotic connective tissue diseases.
