The history of CEMO in brief
In 2009, the Norwegian Ministry of Education and Research announced a 10-year grant for a Centre for Educational Measurement in Norway. The objective was to build up an international research unit that conducts basic research on educational assessments and applied research on early childhood, primary, secondary and higher education.
The application from the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the University of Oslo won the competition and Jan-Eric Gustafsson (University of Gothenburg, Sweden) was installed as the interim Director.
CEMO was officially opened in spring 2013 with the former Minister of Education Kristin Halvorsen present. In 2014 Sigrid Blömeke (1965-2023) became the first permanent Director of the centre. After a successful evaluation, the Faculty of Educational Sciences decided in 2019 to keep CEMO as a permanent unit.
