The Sigrid Blömeke Scholarship Award

In Memory of Professor Sigrid Blömeke (1965-2023)

The Centre for Research on Equality in Education (CREATE) at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Oslo, is pleased to announce the Sigrid Blömeke Scholarship Award. This award has been established in honor of Professor Sigrid Blömeke, founding director of CREATE and a distinguished scholar in the fields of educational measurement, teacher competence, and equality of education.

Content and Purpose

The Sigrid Blömeke Scholarship Award supports postdoctoral researchers and assistant professors who are passionate about conducting research projects connected to one or more of the CREATE strands (https://www.uv.uio.no/create/english/research/): (1) Identifying barriers to equality in education, (2) Intervening on barriers to equality in education, and (3) Addressing key methodological challenges connected to research on equality in education.

The main objectives of this scholarship award are to foster research on equality in education, initiate and strengthen collaboration with CREATE, and provide young scholars with a unique research experience in an international and interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence in research.

 

Award and Expectations

Successful candidates will receive 50.000 NOK that they can spend on research activities within the proposed project. During the scholarship period, recipients are expected to visit CREATE twice (for 5-10 days per visit) and present their research project at least once in one of the CREATE seminars. The costs of travelling and accommodation during these stays will be covered.

Furthermore, award recipients are expected to collaborate with at least one academic member of CREATE. To facilitate this, it is a requirement to contact the prospective collaborators at CREATE to discuss and establish an agreement for collaboration before submitting the application.

 

Application Procedure

To be considered for the scholarship award, please submit two documents:

1. A curriculum vitae (listing education, academic positions, research areas, and key publications); and

2. A two-page research proposal that includes: 

  • A description of the project that you intend to work on during your stay;
  • The expected outcome(s) of your scholarship award;
  • A brief description of how your proposal connects to the expertise of the collaborating CREATE member(s); and
  • The expected contribution to CREATE.

Moreover, please complete the online submission form which also includes:

  • 3. An abstract (100-200 words) describing the project that you intend to work on during your stay;
  • 4. The name(s) of the collaborating CREATE member(s); and
  • 5. The proposed dates for the two stays (5-10 days each) at CREATE in Oslo.
