CREATE’s writing seminar is aimed at providing a platform for PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers at CREATE and the Faculty of Educational Sciences to engage in focused academic writing. Specifically, this seminar follows a “shut-up-and-write” structure and contains focused writing sessions, short breaks, and sometimes even a brief input from an experienced writer.

Collaboration has proven to be a powerful tool for learning, but we don’t know exactly why. In this workshop we address empirical ways to investigate this issue.

Studies using experience sampling or ecological momentary assessment are susceptible to unwanted effects from careless responding by participants. At this seminar, Associate Professor Esther Ulitzsch (CEMO and CREATE) will present work on how features of the experience sampling study design relate to careless and insufficient effort responding.

Master Wangqiong Ye  at CEMO - Centre for Educational Measurement will be defending the thesis "Academic Resilience in International Education Studies. Validity Challenges and Methodological Consideration" for the degree of PhD.

Fluent reading is considered necessary for understanding nontrivial passages and is associated with better reading comprehension. We do not really understand either the cognitive mechanisms of fluent reading or the potential causal connections between fluency and comprehension. In the BetterReading project we tackle some of these issues head on. Presented by Professor Athanasios Protopapas.
