Progressive tests with an ordered structure in item difficulty are widely used, especially for screening purposes in early language skills. Various stopping rules have been used to reduce test length and response burden. However, the development of the stopping rules for such progressive tests is rarely documented and lacks transparency.

Applying stopping rules in progressive tests improves the test efficiency by reducing test length but at the risk of reducing measurement accuracy and precision.  This project aims to provide a transparent toolkit that guides the procedure of setting appropriate stopping rules, in light of a systematic evaluation and comparison of different impact measures of alternative rules.
