The Department is opening the academic year 2012-2013 with an inauguration ceremony where the Jonas prize for 2012 will be awarded.

Professor David L. Kirp will hold the lecture "Children First-policy" at the Department of Special Needs Education.
Professor Elliot Turiel will hold the lecture "Moral and Social Reasoning: The role of Social Opposition and Moral Resistance" at the Department of Special Needs Education.

The Department of Special Needs Education is celebrating its 5o-year anniversary this year and to mark this occasion the opening of the academic year 2011-2012 will be held in the University's Aula. The "Jonas" prize for 2011 will also be awarded during the opening ceremony.
A seminar with the launch of special ISP issue of "Spesialpedagogikk" journal is held on the occasion of the Department's 50th anniversary.

Cand.polit. Thomas de Lange will defend his doctoral dissertation for the degree of Ph.d:
"Technology and Pedagogy: Analysing Digital practices in Media Education."
Cand.philol. Juliet Hilary Munden at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research will defend her doctoral dissertation for the degree of Ph.d:
"How students in Eritrea and Norway make sense of literature."
