Abstract

In this second part of the book, you are invited to engage with the implications of the normative stance espoused in Part I and how such commitments may be lived out in practice. The focus in this part is on praxis, 1 that of five academic developers (ADs) as they grapple with and reflect upon their efforts to deploy deliberative communication as part of their pedagogical repertoire as they lead educational practices. These case studies of praxis are the substance of Chapters 6–10. We like to think that they speak in various ways to all who engage in university teaching, but also to institutional leaders, academic and administrative, as well as to politicians, policy-makers and international agencies with responsibility for, as well as influence on, the governance and orientations of higher education. We also describe the case study methodology and how deliberative communication is deployed as a research approach.
