Abstract
This introductory chapter lays out ‘quality work’ as the overarching concept for the entire book. The chapter discusses the current state of the art in the literature regarding quality in higher education and argues for the necessity of a new concept that connects research on organisational and pedagogical dimensions of quality in higher education. These two strands of research have contributed many relevant insights regarding quality in higher education, but limited linkages between the two traditions have been created. The chapter concludes with an overview of the remaining chapters in the book.
