Extensions

You may apply for an extension if there is less than one year left of your PhD period.

Statutory leaves

Statutory leaves of more than 2 weeks trigger an extension of the admission period.

PhD-candidates employed at the University of Oslo must contact their Head of Department regarding extensions of employment.

PhD-candidates with external funding must submit an explanatory application, along with a letter from your employer/ financier, confirming an extension of the funding period. Discuss the situation with your supervisor. Submit your application to the faculty secretariat. Contact information.

Extensions (other than statutory leaves)

You may apply for an extension of your admission period. The application must be recommended by your department/ unit before it is sent to the faculty. The application must be accompanied by a letter from your supervisor confirming that the thesis work can be completed during the extension period. Supervision is required.

Not an extension of your employment contract

An extension of your PhD period is not an extension of your employment contract and does not mean that you will automatically be paid. Contact your employer to discuss a possible extension of the employment contract.

Supervision

If there are no more hours of supervision left, your department/ unit must decide whether you will be assigned more hours for extension. Contact your PhD advisor, as well as your employer if this is not UiO.
