Stipend for an academic stay abroad

Doctoral research fellows at the Faculty of Educational Sciences who plan to travel abroad may apply for funds for this purpose.

About the funding

As part of its strategic priorities, the Faculty will make arrangements for our doctoral research fellows to stay at a research institution outside Norway as part of their organized research training. The Faculty has draw up a budget of NOK 350.000 to this. The funds that are being announced are intended to serve as extra funding to cover the costs associated with a research fellow's travel and stay. Fellows can apply for up to NOK 70 000 (as of January 1st 2023) in additional funding per application. Funds are normally only granted once during the admission period.

How to apply

The application must include a short version of the plan for the overseas stay, how the stay will benefit the research, the current progress of the research during the admission period, where and when the stay will take place, a recommendation from the supervisors and department head, and an agreement with the unit on what reports etc. the candidate must submit when they return to UiO. The faculty would like the report on the overseas stay to be a collaboration between the candidate and the candidate's supervisor and unit.

A budget for the requested stimulus funds must also be submitted, showing how these funds tie in with the other funding procured for the stay. The application for additional funds must be a maximum of two pages long. The application must be sent to the Faculty. Allocated funds will be disbursed as a lump sum, and will be reported to the faculty, according to the plan for use of funds enclosed with the application. Funds that are not used must be repaid to the Faculty.

Application deadline

There is a dedicated pool for this purpose. Based on previous years, there is no set deadline. The Faculty aims to process applications shortly after receiving them.
