The Evaluation of the New National Curriculum: Intentions, Processes, and Practices (EVA2020)

From the beginning of the school year in 2020, a new core curriculum, as well as subject curricula, went into effect in Norwegian schools.  This implies that the content and outline of all curricula in primary and secondary education have been renewed. The Faculty of Education at the University of Oslo has been commissioned to carry out a research-based evaluation of the revised national curriculum.

About the project

The project will run from 2019 through 2025, and address the following thematic areas:

  • The decision-making processes leading up to the new curriculum
  • The curriculum text and the quality of support resources
  • Governance and leadership of local curriculum work
  • The curriculum renewal's encounter with the school's practice and students' learning

The research-based evaluation will give insights and knowledge that are useful for decision-makers, administration, school practice, and students' learning as well as future research.

Researchers from all the units at the Faculty of Educational Sciences participate in the project. This gives a unique opportunity to utilize the breadth of the faculty's professional and methodological expertise.

Funding

EVA2020 is funded by The Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training. The Directorate is the executive agency for the Ministry of Education and Research in Norway.
