Academic interests

My research fields are English-language literature and literature education. I am particularly interested in the uses of literature across the education system, from primary to higher education. Over the past several years, I have examined various aspects of this question in relation to curricula in English and to English textbooks. As a research fellow in the EDUCATE-project, I am currently exploring the question using video-observation data. I am also interested in teacher educator identities and attitudes. Within the area of literary studies, I have been concerned with the potential of literature to portray human experience and to shed light on societal phenomena, and I have written on such topics as the Great Irish Famine and 9/11 terrorism in contemporary Anglo-American fiction.
