About the project

In this project, we collaborate with an adult education centre that organizes an annual sustainability week.

The school is characterized by widespread diversity in terms of students’ language background, transnational experiences, and previous school background.

We investigate the sustainability didactics at this school by observing the teaching and other activities that take place during sustainability week, in addition to interviewing students, teachers and school leaders. Theoretically, we bring perspectives from sustainability and diversity into dialogue with each other.

Background

Many schools organize work on sustainable development in the national curriculum (LK20) as projects, theme weeks or periods. Such projects focus on student participation and exploratory working methods as central aspects of the major societal challenges referenced in the UN’s sustainability agenda.

In this way, teachers may use students’ own knowledge and everyday experiences in teaching. How teachers and students use the diversity of pupils’ experiences and knowledge is largely unknown, and this project seeks to address this gap.
