About the project

The Ph.D. project is part of the innovation project " Learning in the age of algorithms” (LAA), where Asker municipality is a project partner.

The project team is planning to conduct case-based video recordings of interactions between primary and lower secondary school students and teachers with software based on artificial intelligence. The teachers in the project will participate as "co-researchers" by designing instruction. In addition, teachers will be interviewed and observed as part of the fieldwork.

Objectives

A primary purpose is to contribute with didactic models that will describe skills and competences ("KI-literacies") that teachers and students will need for potential learning-enhancing interaction with GAI. It is also a goal to analyze dialogues mediated by GAI in the light of established perspective and dialogue theory.

Background

Learning resources with algorithmics are already in use in schools. Based on the introduction of ChatGPT in November 2022, a need arose to explore how GAI could potentially be used as a tool in Norwegian classrooms. Literature searches conducted in the autumn of 2023 indicate a need to investigate the use of tools with artificial intelligence in different school subjects in the classroom and on a larger scale.
