This hands-on, interactive workshop on writing Data Management Plans (DMPs) aims to help you create, organize and improve DMP for qualitative projects. During our workshop, we will first give you a short overview of the main DMP components and then walk you through the process of how to write and organize them efficiently. You will then work independently or in small groups on creating or improving your DMP. Each component of the DMP will be reviewed collectively to ensure that everyone benefits from the group's collective expertise and experience.

We ask you to bring your own laptop. If you already have a draft of a DMP, feel free to bring it - but you can also start from scratch! We will also show you DMP templates that can suit qualitative research projects.

Learning Objectives

In addition to creating a draft of your project's data management plan, you will:

  • recognize the importance of using a DMP in your project with a focus on qualitative data

  • have an overview over the main components of a DMP for qualitative research

  • learn how to compose each DMP section

  • become familiar with available DMP tools and templates that can be suitable for qualitative projects

  • understand UiO, NFR, and other funders requirements for DMPs

Target Audience

Primarily PhD students, postdocs and researchers involved in qualitative research projects as well as research support staff at the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital, or anyone else who needs to work on their Data Management Plan for qualitative research.
