About the project
The long-term development goal of the project is more informed policy-making and better service delivery in the education sector, leading in time to an increased number of children completing good quality primary and secondary education in Tanzania. Dropout rates are a major concern on a global scale, particularly in Africa. In addition many children, for various reasons, do not enrol in school at all or start school much later than the normal age. There are probably language, gender and class related issues involved in the decision not to attend school or drop out prematurely. The research planned to be undertaken through the planned Masters and PhD programmes will throw light on this and other issues affecting universal primary and secondary education in Tanzania.
The project purpose is the improved institutional capacity of State University of Zanzibar (SUZA), especially in the School of Education (SoE) and School of Kiswahili and Foreign Languages (SKFL) as well as improved institutional capacity of the Faculty of Education of the University of Dar es Salaam, partly in support of the development of SUZA.
