The Department of Special Needs Education is hosting an open seminar about the intersection of education, special needs education, and disability studies. The Department has invited two internationally leading figures in disability studies, Dan Goodley of Sheffield University and Simo Vehmas of the University of Helsinki, to discuss these and related issues.

The Department of Special Needs Education is celebrating its 5o-year anniversary this year and to mark this occasion the opening of the academic year 2011-2012 will be held in the University's Aula. The "Jonas" prize for 2011 will also be awarded during the opening ceremony.
A seminar with the launch of special ISP issue of "Spesialpedagogikk" journal is held on the occasion of the Department's 50th anniversary.
