A pioneer in special needs education professional development in the Nordic countries, Professor Susan Tetler from Danmarks Pædagogiske Universitetsskole (DPU), will hold a special lecture on the subject from a Nordic perspective. Tetler is the leader of a research group with over 20 researchers at the DPU, and was the initiator and former head of the master's program in special needs education at the DPU.
The seminar's second presentation is held by the director of education in Oslo kommune, Astrid Søgnen. The topic is special education in school - which is a particularly important and relevant area of the subject.
Furthermore, children and youth leader at Sagene in Oslo will talk about how the municipality and the university department can collaborate on research and expertise for mutual inspiration and enrichment.
A part of the programme is also reserved for students and the ISP's research fellows.
Anniversary journal
The anniversary journal that will be launched, is an expanded special edition of the journal "Spesialpedagogikk". It contains articles about the milestones in specialized teaching, reflections on the subject's development and key areas for special needs education in the coming years; interviews with students about why they chose special needs education etc. In addition, the journal has an extensive research section with four peer-reviewed articles written by researchers from the research groups at the Department. The articles thus reflect the variety of research being conducted at ISP.
The seminar in a good opportunity for anyone interested in special needs education to participate in the discussion of important issues regarding the development, challenges and opportunities of the field!
