Vasiliki Diamanti and Anders Lunde will be presenting the Norwegian Orthographic Analyzer. A tool that can 1) help you find words based on user-supplied lexical and grammatical criteria, and 2) can provide you the properties of Norwegian words. It can also be used for test development, including non-words.

To calculate the word frequencies and properties, a large corpus of Norwegian film and television subtitles was used. This has the advantage of making the data more relevant for spoken language.

A wide range of language related research and clinical practice requires precise control of materials, including the properties of the words used as stimuli for experiments (e.g., specific length and frequency of occurrence), as items for assessment, or as training material for intervention.

Lack of control over relevant properties confounds theoretically important with trivial potential causes and undermines the immediate conclusion as well as the generalizability of the research. Indeed, research that fails to control for important lexical properties is considered to be of lower quality and is not acceptable in prestigious journals.

The platform provides calculation of quantitative properties for user-defined words
and nonwords, looks up words based on user-supplied criteria with control for properties such as combinations of letters, and it permits discovery of sets of words with common parts, similar spelling patterns, and choosing among parts of speech or grammatical types to suit a planned intervention.
