Sustainability in Special Needs Education

Special educators work for a society where more people get the opportunity to live a good life and be active participants in society. Our area of expertise is therefore at the core of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainability is a word most people associate with climate and energy. But sustainability is about more than that.

The UN's sustainability goals are to a large extent about a world where as many people as possible can participate in a meaningful way and live a good life. This happens through good education, good health and quality of life, decent work, less inequality, and fair institutions.

In short: Inclusion. In early education and school, in leisure time and in working life.

— This is the core of what we work with at the Department of Special Needs Education. I want all of us who are part of the Department of Special Needs Education, students and staff, to see that the work we do every day contributes to a more sustainable society.
