Universal Design for Learning is a key goal of UiO’s educational practice to ensure universal accessibility of education for all students.
Universal Design for Learning is a principle to make education accessible for everyone by removing barriers to learning and giving students equal opportunity to succeed.
As teachers, we must consider how the digital material we make and use for our courses can be easily accessed by students with learning or physical impairments. Canvas is UiO's digital classroom program and we should ensure our Canvas courses are designed to support UDL.
This IDEA UndervisningsLab will present examples of how students benefits from universally designed Canvas material. In addition, the workshop gives you an opportunity to universally design your existing Canvas course material with support from universal design specialists at UV and UiO – Henri Valtteri Pesonen (ISP), Ida Maria Solås (USIT), Mirjana Coh and Tore Bredeli Jørgensen (LINK).
Program:
Kl. 16:00-16:15
Introduction, cases and examples of student UDL needs
Kl. 16:15-17:15
Workshop, one-on-one support to design UDL material and to use Canvas' Accessibility Checker function
Kl. 17:15-17:45
Break, presentation of UiO UDL resources and further courses, and wrap-up discussion
UV teachers, learning assistants, and other staff contributing to teaching are all welcome to join the workshop.
