QUINT PhD fellow Jonas Teglbjærg successfully defends dissertation

The title of the dissertation is "Teaching a Utopia? On the Conditions for Deliberative Discussion in Social Science Education."

"This thesis contributes much-needed empirically founded insight into deliberative practices, their conditions and different aspects of quality in the social science classroom," says supervisor Nora E. H. Mathé.

The dissertation explores the extent to which quality in social studies teaching is understood as democratic deliberation as well as the extent to which teaching in Danish and Norwegian social studies classrooms is characterized by aspects of democratic deliberation.

"This thesis contributes much-needed empirically founded insight into deliberative practices, their conditions and different aspects of quality in the social science classroom."

 

Teglbjærg defended his dissertation at the University of Southern Denmark, Department for the Study of Culture, The Faculty of Humanities on December 21, 2023.

Teglbjærg's supervisors were associate professor Torben Spanget Christensen, Department of Design, Media and Educational Science University of Southern Denmark, associate professor Nora E. H. Mathé, Department of Teacher Education and School Research, UiO and associate professor Anders Stig Christensen, Teacher Education Odense, University College Lillebælt.
