Studying teaching quality across subjects and settings

QUINT systematically investigates key features of teaching practices across the Nordic countries.

Students in classroom

In what ways does teaching make a difference to student learning and engagement?

Do subject-specific or cultural-specific patterns in teaching and learning emerge? How are digitalization and multicultural challenges addressed in Nordic classrooms?

QUINT especially focuses on the following:

  • Instructional practices and repertoires within and across the three core subject areas of mathematics, language arts, and social sciences across Nordic classrooms;
  • The role of student engagement and interaction across different subjects and national contexts;
  • How digitalization of the learning processes affects teacher– student  interaction?; and
  • How classroom climate and student composition, for instance, students’ backgrounds and inclusive and multi-lingual classrooms, impact student learning?

A key research topic will be the role of student engagement and how teacher–student interactions support student learning.
