In the SpedAims ABC123 research project, we want to find out more about how we can best support the development of children who struggle with both mathematics and reading. The study will follow around 500 children in primary school for two years.

Facts about SpedAims ABC123
Investigating
what an intervention aimed at children who struggle with both mathematics and reading should contain.
A Collaboration
between SpedAims and Norwegian schools in Eastern and Western Norway.
Funded
by The Research Council of Norway and all the partners.
We need more knowledge
There are many studies that have looked at interventions that can support the development of children who struggle with reading or children who struggle with mathematics. In contrast, we have little knowledge of how we can best support the development of children who struggle with both mathematics and reading.
In SpedAims ABC123, we ask:
- What should an intervention aimed at children who struggle with both mathematics and reading contain?
- Which teaching principles can support both children's reading development and the development of early mathematical skills?
- What is the effect of an intervention aimed at children who struggle with mathematics and reading?
SpedAims - Centre for Research on Special Needs Education and Inclusive Practice is a collaboration between special educational research environments at the University of Oslo, the University of Stavanger, the University of Bergen, the University of Agder and Nord University.
