In the research project SpedAims Kohort we want to find out more about how children growing up in Norway develop in important areas such as language, reading, writing, mathematics and social skills. The study will follow around 750 children from all over Norway in the last two years of kindergarten and further into school.

children's development of language, reading, writing, mathematics and social skills.
A collaboration
between SpedAims and Norwegian municipalities throughout the country.
Funded
by The Research Council of Norway and all the partners.
We need more knowledge
There are many studies that have investigated how children develop language and reading skills. In contrast, we have less knowledge about children's development of mathematical skills. At the same time, most studies have been conducted in English-speaking countries, and we currently know less about how transferable this research is to a Norwegian context. Previous studies in Norway have generally included relatively few children, and findings from such studies are therefore associated with a lot of uncertainty.
In SpedAims Kohort, we ask:
-
What are characteristic features of children's development in areas such as language, reading, writing and mathematics and social and emotional skills?
-
What are early risk and protective factors for the development of difficulties, such as mathematics difficulties, language difficulties and dyslexia?
-
Which existing mapping tools can best identify children who have or are at risk of developing later difficulties in various areas?
